20% off all original artwork until Halloween

If you’re interested in buying any of my original artwork, now’s a great time: everything available at Athenaeum Comic Art is 20% off until the end of October! This includes the pricier March pages as well as Sweet Tooth, Black Hammer, Two Dead, Come Again, Any Empire, The Silence of Our Friends, The Year of the Beasts, and Swallow Me Whole.

After that, we’ll be restocking with some new originals, including some art from Run and Save It For Later, some X-Men pieces, Nib illustrations, and more. Stay tuned!

Original artwork for sale!

If you’re interested in original artwork, I have a few dozen pages for sale via Atheneum Comic Art— this includes pages from most of my pre-2020 books. Listings are being updated currently, and there should be a good sampling of Sweet Tooth and Black Hammer pages added in the next few days as well! All pages are signed and dated by the year in which they were drawn.

(To prevent undue shock, please be aware that my March pages are considerably more expensive than my other work. This has always been the case whenever they’ve been available for sale, and I’m not in a hurry to part with them. Thanks for understanding.)

Original artwork for sale

I’ve teamed up with Sean at Athenaeum Comic Art to begin selling some of my original artwork for the first time since 2015— currently available are some pages from Two Dead, Come Again, Black Hammer, March, Sweet Tooth, The Year of the Beasts, The Silence of Our Friends, Any Empire, Swallow Me Whole, and a few one-off and unpublished pieces.

Athenaeum will be publicly launching these art sales in the coming weeks on their site (and please check out the artwork from the fantastic roster of fellow cartoonist friends!). Until then, if you’re interested please contact Sean at the Athenaeum site for inquiries. Thank you!

Original artwork up for sale through late July-- a rare chance to buy MARCH pages too!

Original signed pages from nearly all of my books are now for sale through late July at my Etsy site-- your support will help me pay off a mountain of hospital bills from the birth of my second daughter, and swim out of debt with the IRS.

CHECK OUT THE SALE HERE.

The sale features work priced from $150 to $1000, and includes pages from March: Book One, The Lost Hero, You Don't Say, Any Empire, Swallow Me Whole, The Silence Of Our Friends, The Year Of The Beasts, In The Dark, Sweet Tooth, Please Release, Sounds Of Your Name, Tiny Giants, and Walkie Talkie. It includes collaborations with writers Scott Snyder, Jeff Lemire, Rick Riordan, Robert Venditti, Cecil Castellucci, Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, Mark Long, and Jim Demonakos. There are also a few unpublished gems in there, like a 1999 Fantastic Four pinup, a tryout page for The Lost Hero, and an alternate version of a March: Book One page

Being a self-employed comic book artist isn't easy or full of job security, especially when trying to support a family with one's efforts-- cartoonists usually don't have a typical means of saving for any retirement or getting employer-based health insurance, and we get absolutely slammed by income taxes as sole proprietors. Career cartoonists are virtually guaranteed to die at their drawing tables, working through old age to make ends meet. I welcome and am prepared for that challenge, and this sale will help bridge a little bump in the road.

Thank you so much for your support and understanding, and for spreading the word-- now back to work!

The Silence Of Our Friends (written by Mark Long & Jim Demonakos, and drawn by me) landed at #59 on Comic Book Resources' Top 100 Books of 2012, sharing company with powerhouses Becky Cloonan (Conan The Barbarian), Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth), Katie Skelly (Nurse Nurse), Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT), Jeff Smith (RASL), Julia Wertz (The Infinite Wait), Raina Telgemeier (Drama), Faith Erin Hicks (Friends With Boys), Gabriel Ba (Casanova), Noah Van Sciver (The Hypo), and Ed Piskor (Wizzywig).

Congratulations to all these talented comics friends!

New review of THE SILENCE OF OUR FRIENDS at Scapegoats And Panaceas

Here's a thoughtful and thorough review of The Silence Of Our Friends up at Scapegoats And Panaceas.

"There are few indications that well-intentioned white southerners or noble white activists, while present in the historical record and active during the movement, are actually representative of the Black Freedom Struggle. Yet Long’s account succeeds admirably in fleshing out the intimate and thorny exigencies of interracial friendship during difficult times. He and his co-authors succeed by not white-washing complexity."

New French story in LA VILLA SUR LA FALAISE!

If you're in France, pick up a copy of Casterman Publishing's La Villa Sur La Falaise ("The Villa At The End Of The Road"), a 280-page short story anthology commemorating the 10th anniversary of their Ecritures graphic novel line (to which Swallow Me Whole and The Silence Of Our Friends belong). I have a brand new 17-page story in the book, available nowhere else!

Other contributors include Isabel Kreitz, Jiro Taniguchi, Cati Baur, Hannah Berry, Saulne, Davide Reviati, Fred Bernard, Gabrielle Piquet, and Kan Takahama. Each of us did a short story continuing a common narrative setup penned by Benoit Sekal. This was one of my favorite stories to bring to life-- I hope you enjoy it!

If you live in North America and would like a copy, I have a handful and will gladly send you a signed copy for $15 in the US, or slightly more in Canada-- just email me at seemybrotherdance@yahoo.com to inquire. Thanks.
