Text from the organizers:
“Join us at the New-York Historical Society to learn about how the NYCDOE Department of Social Studies and Civics for All teams are working with the top talent in the comic industry to engage students to take civic action.
“This all-day professional learning conference will begin with a panel discussing the creative process along with the impact that graphic texts can have on students learning. All attendees will take part in a workshop on teaching comics in the Civics for All Curriculum, breakout sessions and the featured talk with the co-authors of the March trilogy, including Congressman John Lewis!
“In addition to workshops lead by NYCDOE educators, participants will learn from comic creators and scholars, including Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey creators of Action Presidents; Andrew Aydin, Nate Powell, and John Lewis co-authors of March; comics scholar Meryl Jaffee, historian Yohuru Williams, and other guests to be named. Participants will also receive books and resources to support teaching social studies and civics with comics!”
