Hi there, I’m Nate Powell. I was born in 1978 in Little Rock, Arkansas. I began self-publishing comics and zines in 1992 at age 14, and graduated from School of Visual Arts in 2000. My work includes Swallow Me Whole (2009 Eisner Award Winner for Best Graphic Novel, LA Times Book Prize Nominee, Ignatz Award Winner; Top Shelf, 2008), Please Release (Top Shelf, 2006), Sounds of Your Name (Microcosm, 2006), It Disappears (Soft Skull, 2004), Tiny Giants (Soft Skull, 2003), the Walkie Talkie series, and contributions to Meathaus, Paper Rodeo, and Eisner-nominated Syncopated anthologies. I’ve also done a variety of workshops, discussions, and presentations for libraries and organizations in Arkansas, Florida, and Indiana. Over the years I’ve done illustration work for the record labels Relapse, Ebullition, Prank, Clean Plate, and Plan-it-X, as well as the zines and magazines HeartattaCk, Rolling Thunder, Cometbus, New York Yankees Magazine, Clamor, Little Rock Monthly, and Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. From 1999 to 2009 I worked full-time for adults with developmental disabilities. I also manage DIY punk record label Harlan Records, and performed in the bands Soophie Nun Squad, Wait, Boomfancy, Gioteens, and Divorce Chord. I’ve lived in Bloomington, Indiana since 2004, and I like it very much. I currently yell and jump around in the band Universe, and am working on the graphic novels Any Empire (Top Shelf, 2010) and The Silence of Our Friends (First Second, 2011). I do not eat meat, but do drive way too much. I can also be a little surly at times, but you should just feed me and I’ll feel much better.CONTACT ME: PO Box 3382 seemybrotherdance(at)yahoo.com |
